Caesar
A modern twist on the original political intrigue.
Adapted and Directed by: Quetta Carpenter
Illinois Shakespeare Festival: 7/2019
This new adaptation tells Shakespeare's story through the lens of modern technology and social media. The director wanted a relentless soundscape that enveloped the audience in too much information. The initial inspiration came from the work of Todd Reynolds, but the addition of the use of voice-over as a major component of the score drove the score to be even more minimalistic. This collage is a stereo rendition of the soundscape that was originally conceived for a 12-speaker system that surrounded the audience with a constant uneven pulse accompanying the saturation of voices coming from all sides.
